Mitre Sun Visor in black buntal straw

$278.00
  • I hand-draped and hand-stitched the Mitre Sun Visor from black buntal straw. The edges are bound in narrow black grosgrain ribbon. Turn heads wherever you go with this dynamic sculptural beauty.

  • I was inspired by the classic pope’s hat as well as the turbans from the 1940s. If viewed as a visor from straight on, it resembles and Asian Conical hat.

  • Buntal (also called jinsin) is a fine fiber derived from the stalks of unopened leaves of talipot palms grown in the Philippines and is lovingly handwoven there on wooden looms into flat yardage.

  • This wonderful material is lightweight and since it’s double layered, it will greatly shade your lovely skin from the sun.

  • I use all of the material, not cutting into it and creating no scraps, so this is a zero waste hat!

  • Transformative: Can be worn like a visor or as a Mitre hat.

  • The visor extends out 9" from the forehead at the center front. It extends 2 1/2” on each side of the hat. You can tilt it to where the sun is coming from, to give you full shade.

  • Adjustable grosgrain ribbon inside: 22 1/2" to 23 1/2" can be the size of your head.

To measure your head

Place a string or tape measure around your head above your eyebrows, and completely encircle your head. Hold the tape firmly, but not too tightly, to get the correct measurement. Place your index finger in between the tape and your head, for some ease. You don’t want a tight hat. Tight hats give headaches!

Peace of mind

I know that it can be tricky choosing a hat online! It’s always best to try hats on in person, because everyone has a different shape head and face. For complete peace of mind, all hats can be exchanged or returned for full money back.

The visor can be ordered in 6 different colors. It can be made in sizes 22”, 22 1/2”, 23”, 23 1/2” and larger, to accommodate braids or locks (please enquire). It will take 4-6 weeks from order date to make and ship to you.

I show you the Mitre Visor in progress in the first video. In the second video, I show you my materials and tools for the buntal visors. Oh! And you get to see my sweet adopted Yorkie, Moja.
